Drop the Crotch?

To some, it's enough to call the fashion police. But I think the drop crotch/harem/dhoti pants that have been showing up in recent collections CAN look pretty good depending on how they're worn or styled.

If you think about it, these have been around for some time in Manila. Remember the Indonesian pants that were everywhere in the bazaar circuit?

The Olsen twins Elizabeth and James line has their own version, which looks radically similar to an authentic Indonesian version I found on the net--look at the asymmetrical buttons on the Olsen twins version.

My favorite new blogger, childhood flames, sewed her own version (see left). This girl has serious style for such a young age. Am thinking I can do one using the pant pattern we used in class then adjust the crotch a little the way she did. If I use a jersey-like material and make some random pleats, maybe it will come out a little different and interesting.

Now. To drop crotch or not to drop crotch? That is the question.

Eye Candy

There are new talents in the fashion industry out there who eschew the typical seasonal collection cycle. They limit their designs to a few choice pieces. Harputs is just fabulous with it's multi-use garments and basics with a twist. Check out the website.

Crossing Fashion

Have been on shopping hiatus since I arrived from the US. What with running around learning the ropes of dad's business, I haven't really set foot in a department store yet except to run in and out to buy something specific that I need like flash disks or office supplies.

Was on a business-related errand and stopped by Crossings Quezon Avenue to make a National Bookstore run (downstairs). I had time to kill and went up to the Crossings women's section. And lo and behold! All these wonderful under-the-radar brands all in one unexpectedly located space--and without having to drive all the way to Mandaluyong!

I especially like United Pop, Faith Hope and Love, and Wildflower and this black blouson tunic top--I forget the brand but am sure you will still find it there. I didn't buy anything that day but I know I will go back there to shop. If in QC, this is one place every clothes horse should visit. Parking is easy, too.

April's Full

Full of activities and changes, that is.

While I try to work out the going back to the US, I have to:

-learn my dad's business
-help manage the house while mom is in the US
-work on completing my portfolio and application requirements
-tour balikbayan guests
-help a cousin apply for his US visa

and recently,

-work around my dad's trips to the hospital and labs.

It has not been easy. I have been praying all the time that we all be healthy in our family. I have seen how difficult it is when a member of the family is sick so it was one of my fears-especially cause I was fearful of the responsibility. I guess there is a reason why I had to be home: to take over Mama while she is away and insist that dad get checked.

Maybe it was a premonition but when I learned of dad's complaints about his chest pains, it was only a confirmation of something I felt he had. I had to insist that he get a checkup cause he is afraid of going to the hospital and finding out what he has.

And my fears have come true. He has an aneurysm in his aorta that needs to be operated on. What kind of operation, we are still to find out while he's going through many tests.

Meanwhile, it is my turn to take care of him and I willingly embrace the job despite my previous hesitancy. I want him to get better and want to be there for him the best way I can. I pray he gets better.
